Beyond our Control

Cream of the crop - and then you whither!
Robust in every way - and then you go bust!
A heart of gold - your bones set in stone
Money, wealth of every kind - alas! All left behind
The perfect marriage - and then you miscarriage
The perfect smile - and then the cancer!
These slivers that overcome mighty oaks
Not the stuff of legend but of jokes!
All it takes to fell an elephant - an ant in it's brain
Humans being the same- with or without pain
Every moment, every inhaled breath
Inviting troubles, disease, turmoil at every step
And yes, a stream of optimism
But one that just flows, without a sheen
That massive ocean, the one of obstacles and harm
Gulping one and all but never seems calm
A glass of wine, the scent of a woman
The simple pleasures that make one seem human
The stench of money, the quagmires of duty
If not set free, a lesson in futility
The dollar, the pound, Brexit and ISIS
They keep looping in a circle - these crises
These might seem abhorrent to you and to me
The almighty universe chooses not to see
As though it gets a break at dawn
So at it's sunrise, it could fawn
The only silver lining - it goes on and on
Unlike my mortality.... unable to survive the last storm.

Vanity might not be your middle name
And you might be free from greed and pelf
Let’s always hope you remain your enlightened self.

Only someone like you could open doors that remain closed
Only someone like you could be as hard-nosed J
Shit does happen, as will happen to you
Turn your back on it, leave it in the loo
Hearts that are pure, have nothing to fear
Undying is your spirit, reason enough to cheer
If you were told to walk the line and conform
Zen-like though you may be,  you would squirm
Ecstacy resides within you, let it not leave
No place for events that one might grieve!

Greatness is not in a deed or a word
Universes bend their will to those free as a bird
Expect nothing, give if you must
Rightfully deserving of honesty and trust
Riddled with doubt, as happens to most
Ever the welcoming host
Reach for the stars but while still on earth
Only then can you hope for a hallowed re-birth.

KRIPTODANNY THE BUDDHA

I met him once while in a chat
Crept up on me, like a sly rat
He is a mahayogi, of spiritual mould
I, a grasshopper - digging for gold
I once thought he was a nut
Lots of fortitude springs from his gut
It takes a while to decipher his words
If misunderstood, his wisdom is akin to turds
He gets angry, speaks with utter spite
Powerful, like Atlas - of unimaginable might
Often his words seem to puzzle
I stay mum, like a dog with a muzzle
If I speak, I might speak crap
And be in bad books, of Big Daddy Mac
Calls himself Danny, or Jimmy Brown?
My insecurities - he wishes he could drown

Mystère d'une éclipse

Eclipse, a sight to behold? Or a precursor of tragedies to unfold?
Does it bring joy, or sorrow? What of tomorrow?
To the optimist, an occurence so benign
To the others, an ominous sign
Through which spectrum do we view this marvel?
Only through the prism of Science, and shove superstition away with a shovel?
Have scientists mastered the entire universe?
If so, why are AIDS, cancer and swine flu yet s curse?
In our India, ridden with caste, color and creed
Such celestial events are indeed a great need
Fodder for paramoia, spreads like wild fire
Little wonder then, pregnant women avoid it's ire
Is it an act of God or a quirk of nature
people with different bents of mind,
Varied conclusions will they find
Of this wondrous world, we know just an iota
Our interests lie in increasing every sort of quota(reservations)

HUMAN FRAILTY

Said the leper to the Lord
"Why did you forsake me so?"
Said the spastic to his God,"
Why did you bend my spine so low?
'To mankind, the echelons above and the minions below
I am the Lord God
But even I have the privilege of an odd mistake
Else, why would so many in history, be burned at the stake?
The less fortunate, I intended them to be above the pack
But alas, I created them whilst taking a nap
Therein I erred and filled their minimal brains with a whole load of crap.
Who dares point fingers at me?
Open your senses and see, why can't you let things be?
Is every thought of yours sublime and poor?
Does every dog have a perfect coat of fur?
I might be the creator, the one above
and you might think I am divorced from your love
But when you suffer and cringe, when push comes to shove,
I do show my mettle and dispatch the odd dove.'
People choose to see their incessant sufferings
Yet, shamelessly they curse and swear at their own pithy failings - obnoxious mutterings
The rich man, ever so haughty.
Blows his own trumpet, even well past forty.
The poor man, ever so docile
Seems more content and less vile
Health is a mirage to the rich
and wealth - a magic wand, providing umbrage, to the poor
At times, we accuse HIM of taking us for a ride
and then we repent, when death is by our bed side.
At times we laugh at the meek, cringe and even sledge
And through their gentle hearts we drive a wedge
Just think, if they could be us(and vice-versa)
Would not they too swear and cuss?

TRAPPINGS OF FAME

In glory they bask
It's a facade, a fragile mask
At times fame is raw,
Thrust upon men of straw
Yet we emulate their every deed
Mere paragons of greed.
Fame sets them apart from the rest
They fear not even the best
The singer you so idolize and crave
He's suicidal - on his way to the grave
When he dies, you shall mourn
The passing away of an insensitive stone
You worshipped him like there's no tomorrow
But he, kicked the bucket in abject sorrow.
We shun the path wherein lies a saint
No doubt why, their path is arduous - and free from material taint
All icons of virtue lie forgotten
For we choose to be friends of Satan
